End of the transfer saga: Milan land Salzburg’s Pavlovic

The negotiations between Salzburg and AC Milan had dragged on for weeks, but now the transfer of RB defender Strahinja Pavlovic to the Rossoneri has been finalized

Strahinja Pavlovic was one of the few Serbs who did not disappoint at either the World Cup in Qatar or the European Championship in Germany, where the team was eliminated in the preliminary round without a sound. The center-back, who is strong in tackles and headers, likes to celebrate successful defensive actions like a goal and has therefore gained a lot of sympathy, was therefore unsurprisingly on the radar of top European clubs.

There were interested parties from England and Italy, but Pavlovic quickly made it clear that he wanted to move to Serie A – and RB Salzburg therefore had to forego a potentially more lucrative financial offer. The Austrians are said to have hoped for a transfer fee of 30 million euros

Tough negotiations between RB and Milan

The negotiations with AC Milan over the transfer fee dragged on for weeks.

They have now agreed on a fixed transfer fee of 18 million euros plus two million euros in bonus payments, according to unanimous reports in the Italian media. The central defender had already agreed a five-year contract with the Rossoneri, which will reportedly earn him €1.5 million per year

Pavlovic took his first steps in the professional game in 2019 when he played for Partizan Belgrade. Just one year later, he was sold to AS Monaco for ten million euros, although he was not happy there. After loan spells in Bruges and Basel, he moved to Salzburg, where he matured into a top central defender and now has 38 caps for Serbia to his name.

At the age of 23, he has now made the move to AC Milan, where Pavlovic is expected to line up alongside Fikayo Tomori in the Rossoneri central defense and form a seasoned Serie A duo under new AC coach Paulo Fonseca.
