Emotional post: Tennis star takes a break

Three quarters of a year ago, Sara Sorribes Tormo won Olympic bronze in Paris. Now she has surprised everyone with a special post on Instagram.

Sara Sorribes Tormo has addressed her fans with a thoughtful message, announcing her temporary retirement from professional tennis. The Spanish player describes how much she has suffered recently from the pressure on the court.

“I wanted to tell you that I have decided to take some time off. Some time for myself, for my mind and for my body,” Sorribes Tormo wrote on Instagram. The 28-year-old explained that the ‘cheerful and happy Sara’ that many know from the tennis circuit does not currently reflect her inner reality.

Alcaraz speaks out

She said she had lost the joy of training and competing for months. Instead, the difficult moments were outweighing the good ones. “I have been suffering on the tennis court for many months,” Sorribes Tormo said. She added that her motivation to improve or even participate in tournaments had disappeared. In addition to support, she needs rest above all else – she herself does not know how long the break will last.

The situation has also moved Spain’s top star Carlos Alcaraz. At a press conference, the four-time Grand Slam winner said: “It’s a shame that Sara, such a cheerful person, is saying these words. I hope she finds the answers she is looking for. Hopefully we’ll see her smiling and fighting again soon – because she’s a fighter.”

Sorribes Tormo has been one of her country’s best tennis players for years. In 2022, she reached 32nd place in the world rankings. She won the bronze medal in doubles at the Olympic Games in Paris.
