EM train departed: Cruciate ligament rupture for Yeremy Pino

Bitter news for Yeremy Pino. The youngster from FC Villarreal has suffered a cruciate ligament rupture. This also means that his last chances of playing in the European Championships have evaporated

Yeremy Pino tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on Thursday, meaning the 21-year-old’s season is over. The twelve-time Spain international (two goals) is also out of the World Cup, having last played in the 6-0 win over Cyprus on September 12.

Yeremy Pino has appeared in seven league and three Europa League games for Villarreal this season. The news is also a huge blow for coach Marcelino, who only returned to the Yellow Submarine on Tuesday. Villarreal will probably have to improve their personnel during the winter break, especially as the club is likely to spend the winter internationally. In the Europa League, Villarreal have impressed with two wins in three games in Group F.

In the league, however, where Villarreal are only 14th, their lack of success was the undoing of predecessor Pacheta after another setback at Atletico Madrid (1:3). Marcelino previously coached Villarreal between 2013 and 2016, most recently on the sidelines at Olympique Marseille until September 2023

Sörloth will also be missing for longer

Former Bundesliga player Alexander Sörloth is also currently suffering from a muscle injury in the hamstring of his right leg, which he sustained in the match against Atletico Madrid. All indications are that the Norwegian will be out for several weeks
