The UEFA eEURO 2024 is just around the corner, but the organizer has yet to make any detailed announcements. We reveal what is already known about the virtual European Championship in EA SPORTS FC 24
UEFA has only released a few snippets of official information since the original announcement of the eEURO in November 2023. Even the field of participants had to be pieced together from external sources after qualification – there was no central overview from the European continental association for a long time. Even at the end of June, not everything worth knowing about the European Championship in FC 24 is officially known. The event will take place on July 7.
The eEURO 2024 will be held in Berlin, as confirmed by the DFB as host. Accordingly, the German eNational Team did not have to go through qualification. It will be represented by Umut Gültekin from RBLZ Gaming, the 2022 FIFA individual world champion. The Leipzig native will face Turkey’s Mert Altintop from Trabzonspor, who won the eSüper Lig in April, in the initial quarter-finals – only eight players are taking part in total
Can Gültekin turn his individual season around?
Unlike his German opponent, ‘iMertAL’ had to prevail in a preliminary competition to get a ticket for Berlin. The same applies to the remaining six eEURO starters – including Gültekin’s RBLZ teammate Anders Vejrgang. The Dane will face Ukraine’s Andrey Shakalov, who is under contract with the eSports organization CIG Gaming, in the quarter-finals. The roles are clear: Vejrgang is the favorite, Shakalov the underdog.
The situation between Gültekin and Altintop is not quite so clear-cut. After all, the Turkish international left top Dutch player Levi de Weerd behind in his qualifying group – the latter had beaten Gültekin in the finals of the FC Pro Open. Although the RBLZ pro has already won the DFB ePokal this season, he has not yet been able to fully convince in the individual competitions by his standards
Vejrgang’s World Cup winner represents Squadra Azzurra
On paper, Leipzig’s toughest eEURO rival is Italy’s Francesco Tagliafierro, who first has to face Norway’s Andreas Aarstad in Berlin. ‘Obrun2002’ – the Squadra Azzurra player’s gamertag – eliminated Vejrgang in the quarter-finals of the FIFAe World Cup 2023. RBLZ and DFB coach Daniel Fehr said at the time that Tagliafierro was “the only one in the rest of the tournament tree who can beat Anders”. The remaining eEURO quarter-finals will be decided between Spain’s Adrian Cifuentes and Israel’s Yuval Blizovsky.
UEFA is awarding a total of 100,000 US dollars in prize money, with 30,000 US dollars going to the digital European champion alone. According to the Battlefy subpage for the FC-24 European Championship, the final round begins on July 7 at 3 pm. According to its own homepage, DFB eFootball will broadcast the action on Twitch from 4 pm, but there will also be an international stream. Further information and confirmations about the eEURO final event are expected next week
