The charges against Mason Greenwood were dropped, he has a new club. So, according to a media report, EA SPORTS FC 24 will also help him make a virtual comeback – but not in all modes right away
FIFA 22 was the last football simulation from EA SPORTS in which Mason Greenwood could be played for a few months after release. The developer reacted swiftly to his suspension from Manchester United and subsequent arrest in January 2022. Shortly afterwards, the Englishman was removed from the game. In EA SPORTS FC 24, more than one and a half years later, the role is to follow backwards. At least that is what the English “Mirror” reports.
They had asked EA SPORTS itself. The publisher is said to have explained the decision with the authentic depiction of the real “active squads of the teams and clubs”. And because Greenwood is now “part of the Getafe FC squad”, he will be “included in FC 24”.
This doesn’t immediately apply to all modes, though: “As Greenwood was not part of an active squad on the last day of processing final team and player data, he will not appear in Ultimate Team at launch.” Which, of course, doesn’t mean the 21-year-old might not return in the popular online mode later in the season.
Investigations dropped, off to Spain for a year
Greenwood has not played a professional football match since January 2022. After serious allegations by his partner, the attacker had been arrested. The subsequent charges: attempted rape and assault. However, these were dropped in February 2023 and the investigation was discontinued – some nine months before the scheduled trial.
The British judiciary no longer saw “a realistic prospect of conviction”. According to the Crown Prosecution Service, this was due to “a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material coming to light”. Greenwood still had no future at Manchester United. He signed a one-year contract with Getafe in early September.
