EA SPORTS FC 24 becomes the platform for eEuro 2024

While the European Championship 2024 is taking place on the real pitch in Germany, a virtual offshoot is also taking place. The eEuro will be played in EA SPORTS FC 24

A virtual summer fairytale? Starting this year, a UEFA eEURO will be held in parallel to the European Football Championship. The tournament will be held in EA SPORTS FC 24, the publisher announced in an official statement.

It states that the tournament will take place annually in future and that “players from the European soccer elite of national teams will be able to compete”. Over 50 national teams have already confirmed their participation. The competition will kick off in March 2024 with online qualifying tournaments. The European champion will then be crowned in July. It is not yet known whether the final round will be held offline

euro as a one-man show

Unlike the FIFAe Club World Cup, for example, which will probably no longer take place, the eEuro is a kind of one-man show. This is because a nation is not represented by two or more FC 24 professionals, but just one. Each country determines how this player is selected using its own selection mechanism. 21 nations, including Spain, are even organizing a selection tournament that will take place in January 2024. Germany, on the other hand, will carry out its “own selection process”, as stated on the tournament website.

Once it has been decided who will represent their country, the eEuro will start in March 2024 with a group stage. The places for the final round will be determined in this phase – with teams competing in round robin rounds with double elimination. This means that each team plays its opponents the same number of times. However, those who are eliminated in the first round are given a second chance in the lower bracket. Unlike in the final round, where the principle of single elimination applies
