Royal Ukrainian champions Dynamo Kiev have fought out a goalless draw in their first competitive match since the start of the war.
In the second round of Champions League qualifying, Kiev drew 0-0 with Fenerbahce Istanbul. The first leg was played in Poland – at the Miejski Stadium in Lodz – due to the uncertain situation around Kiev. The second leg will take place next Wednesday in Turkey. The winner will then face Austrian runners-up Sturm Graz. The winner of this duel, in turn, will be in the Champions League play-off, the loser in the Europa League group stage.
Since the start of the war and the cancellation of the league, the Ukrainian record champions had kept themselves fit with test and charity matches – such as the one at Borussia Dortmund in April. Wrapped in their national flag, the Dynamo professionals stood and sang the national anthem before kick-off.
