A bad second half destroys a good first half. Even with 1:4 in Leipzig, promoted Fürth reaches its sporting limits. In the process, it falls behind far too quickly after the quick equaliser. A pattern that is now repeating itself.
The spark of hope for a big surprise glimmered in the Fürth dressing room at half-time. Stefan Leitl’s team led 1:0 at the Champions League contender, and completely deserved it. “We saw a really good game from my team in the first half. We were very present, won the ball well, had good moments of transition,” praised the coach.
The problem? The second half. Equaliser in the 46th minute, behind after 52 minutes, game lost. Already in the 1:2 at Hertha BSC and the 1:3 in Cologne, the cloverleaf conceded the quick knockout double after a lead. “For us it is of course very bitter that the equaliser as well as the 1:2 come clearly too quickly,” Leitl also recognised, Jeremy Dudziak said: “It is difficult to explain. I think the early 1:1 and 2:1 were decisive for that. “
“We could have been leading higher at the break, then maybe it will be a different game. “
JEREMY DUDZIAK
It needn’t have come to that if Dudziak had taken one of his two chances in the first half. “We could have led by more at the break, then it might be a different game,” he said, but has to hold his own tongue. Above all, he should have made more out of the header in the opening phase.
Dudziak didn’t, so he is representative of the Fürth dilemma: all quite nice to look at, but not efficient and therefore unsuccessful.
One point after nine matchdays gives little cause for hope. However, as long as the relegation place is only five points away, the spark glows even after the 1:4.
