Torsten Schubert, founder of Schubert Motorsport, has received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his voluntary work in Oschersleben
Highest honor for Torsten Schubert: The team boss of Schubert Motorsport and founder of the Motorsportarena Oschersleben has been awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany at the State Chancellery in Magdeburg
Schubert, who has been an honorary member of the Oschersleben town council for the CDU for more than 30 years, received the medal from Minister President Reiner Haseloff. The 60-year-old master car mechanic was honored for his commitment to local politics and charitable work.
In his laudatory speech, Haseloff said: “Today you are being honored for your impressive political and social commitment over many years. The core of this service is best described by the term love of your homeland, because the shaping and development of your native town of Oschersleben and the Börde region are at its heart.”
Schubert’s concern was aimed at the well-being of the inhabitants of the Börde and at economic development, which is always the foundation of prosperity and social justice, continued the Minister President. Haseloff also paid tribute to Schubert’s services to the Oschersleben motorsport arena, which was largely due to his commitment.
Schubert performs a number of voluntary activities, including as Chairman of the Oschersleben town council’s building committee. He is also chairman of the CDU parliamentary group. “Serving always comes before earning,” is his motto.
His commitment goes beyond politics: in 2013, he donated 22,100 euros to three churches when he opened a new car dealership in Magdeburg. Schubert Motors now has 13 branches for the BMW and Hyundai brands.
He has turned his passion, cars and motorsport, into a profession. Although his team is one of the most successful racing teams in Germany, Schubert is considered one of the most down-to-earth in the paddock.
Schubert started out in motorsport back in the GDR era in autocross, where he became European champion in 1999. After one season in the German Touring Car Challenge (DTC), he hung up his helmet in 2000 and from then on concentrated on his work as team boss.
Schubert Motorsport became DTC champion with Markus Gedlich in 2001, and Claudia Hürtgen became the team’s figurehead in the following years. The collaboration with BMW, with whom he had long worked in the car trade, also became increasingly close in motorsport and culminated in the GT3 commitment.
Schubert has been involved in the DTM since 2022 and won the title with Sheldon van der Linde in 2022 at the first attempt. The weekend of May 21 and 22, 2022, when Schubert Motorsport took all of the weekend’s race wins in the DTM and the ADAC GT Masters with Sheldon van der Linde, Ben Green and Niklas Krütten at the same time, remains unforgettable
