Dramatic Arsenal falls further behind after expensive misser Özil

Arsenal is still waiting for his first victory this season in the Premier League after four races. The Arsène Wenger team came Saturday evening via Per Mertesacker on a head start at Watford, but in the second half of the year they fell hard through the basket and finally turned home in a pointless way: 2-1. Because of the defeat, Arsenal is now in sixth place; the lead over Manchester City is now nine points.

Arsenal had traveled to Vicarage Road without a star player Alexis Sánchez, while the Mesut Özil, who had returned from an injury, had to settle for a place on the reserve bench. Without the duo, the London formation struggled to get a grip on the duel. Wenger’s team was grooved in wrong passes, which made it relatively easy for the home team to stay on their feet in the opening phase. A simple rescue of Heurelho Gomes from a distance shot by Mohamed Elneny meant the first serious achievement for a very poorly acting Arsenal after 35 minutes of playing.

Watford, where Daryl Janmaat ninety minutes on the couch pocket, seemed to bring the tea so easily without any clothes tears but had to bow the head at the stroke of rest. Granit Xhaka brought the ball out of a corner kick to Mertesacker, who then gave Gomes no appearance of a chance with a shingle-hard headbutt: 0-1. The German defender has listened to his first Premier League base for 532 days with a goal. Arsenal was then given the opportunity to further increase the score in the first half of the year through Xhaka and Héctor Bellerín, but they did not have the focus on the spotlight.

However, the revival of the Gunners turned out to be of very short duration. Watford came out of the dressing room significantly stronger and was soon close to the uniformer via Richarlison. The distance shot of the Brazilian curled, however, beyond the goal of Petr Cech. On the other hand, Gomes with a clever rescue prevented Alex Iwobi from making the 0-2 after an intelligent pass of invader Mesut Özil, who did not fail eye to eye with the Brazilian goalkeeper much later.

Watford was therefore allowed to continue hoping for a result and finally managed to equalize twenty minutes before time. A violation of Bellerín on the outstanding Richarlison was punished by referee Neil Swarbrick with a penalty kick, after which Deeney took care of the windfall opportunity: 1-1. Watford then went on to hunt for victory and in the second minute of the injury time was rewarded to work. Tom Cleverley scored up close after a criminal for the purpose of Cech.
