Dovedan is an Austrian again

Nikola Dovedan is back in the hunt for goals for Austria Wien – he already played for the capital city side in his youth. The 28-year-old, whose contract with 1. FC Nürnberg expired in the summer, signs for a year with the Viennese club.

Vienna Austria have once again upgraded their attack. The sixth-placed team in the Austrian Bundesliga secured the services of Nikola Dovedan on Tuesday. The 28-year-old attacking player was a regular for 1. FC Nürnberg in the 2nd Bundesliga last season and was able to transfer free of charge as his contract had expired in the summer. For Dovedan it is a return, as he had already played for the favourites as a youth player.
His contract runs until the summer of 2023. Dovedan had once moved to Austria from Tulln at the age of twelve and had spent four years there as a youth player. “Joining Austria at that time was, next to my wife, my best decision so far. Austria has always been my club ever since,” said Dovedan.

He will also meet former teammates with Lukas Mühl, Christian Früchtl, Lucas Galvão, Andreas Gruber and Reinhold Ranftl. “He is a declared Austrian and decided for us despite several offers. He is a playmaking striker who is very capable of scoring goals,” Austria sporting director Manuel Ortlechner announced.
