As in the cup, so in the league: Rostock won 3:2 in Regensburg and thus take important points in the fight to stay in the league. Jahn, on the other hand, missed the chance to take the lead in the standings over the international break
Both teams were victorious in the league recently, but there were changes in the starting line-ups on both sides. Jahn coach Mersad Selimbegovic substituted Beste and Zwarts for Faber and Boukhalfa in the starting line-up compared to the 3:0 win in Ingolstadt Hansa coach Jens Härtel, on the other hand, made only one change from the 2:1 against Düsseldorf and had Schumacher start for Mamba.
With the aim of taking the lead in the table, the Jahn tried to gain control of the game straight away. After four minutes, the Upper Palatinate team could have already taken the lead, but both Wekesser and Zwarts failed to put their attempts on target. Rostock were tactically very disciplined in the first half and made the spaces in their own half very tight. However, the Kogge were initially only dangerous through a long-range shot by Rizzuto (15th).
Double strike after the break
After just over half an hour, the Jahn broke decisively through the Rostock bulwark in midfield – and promptly made it 1:0. Wekesser played Singh free centrally, and the New Zealander flicked the ball into the right corner from 18 metres (34.). Six minutes later, Beste had the second goal on his foot, but instead of shooting directly, the Regensburg player hesitated too long in the penalty area.
This carelessness in finishing was immediately avenged, as Verhoek equalised before the break. The attacker was allowed to receive a cross from Rizzuto in the penalty area and then placed the ball with his left foot exactly into the left-hand corner (43rd).
The 1:1 was also an effective goal, because Rostock cut Jahn off in their half after the restart. Regensburg could hardly get into the duels, which the Kogge punished with a double strike: First Behrens was ice-cold in the one-on-one against Meyer (49th), then Verhoek only had to push a low cross from Neidhart over the line (52nd).
Gimber hits the post, Makridis shortens
In the aftermath, the Jahn rallied but needed almost half an hour for their first chance of the second period. Singh played Gimber free in front of the penalty area, and the Regensburg captain rifled the ball against the left post from 20 metres (74.). Shortly before the end, the Upper Palatinate team scored the final goal through substitute Makridis (90th), but in a hectic final phase Hansa managed to hold on for the win.
Regensburg thus missed out on the top of the table, losing twice to Hansa within eleven days. After the international break, Jahn are guests at HSV (20 November). Rostock, on the other hand, recorded their second league win in a row and will take on Aue in a fortnight time.
