Doping proceedings: Ulm pro Jallow signs out of testing pool

Karim Jallow is under investigation for allegedly missing doping tests. He is now drawing consequences that could have far-reaching consequences

Pro basketball player Karim Jallow of German champions ratiopharm Ulm has made a serious decision because of the ongoing doping proceedings. “I have deregistered from the testing pool,” Jallow tells Bild. If it stays that way, he would have no chance of participating in the Olympic Games in Paris next summer. He was already not part of the squad when he won the World Cup.

Only players who are listed in the so-called Adams App (Anti-Doping Administration and Management System) can also play for the selection. The 26-year-old international is part of a pool of male and female athletes who have to declare quarterly in advance, among other things, where they can be found for one hour per day for a test.

Jallow faces two-year ban

The National Anti-Doping Agency (Nada) initiated proceedings against Jallow for three reporting and testing failures. It is investigating whether Jallow breached the standards for reporting obligations in the 2021/22 season. If Jallow is found to have committed violations, the winger faces a two-year ban, which can be reduced to one year depending on the degree of culpability.

“It’s a pending case, I don’t know when a verdict can be expected. I’m blanking all that out. I have to. And I will fight,” Jallow told Bild.

Jallow clearly positions himself against doping

Previously, he had expressed surprise about the incident in an Instagram post and clearly positioned himself against doping. “I reject doping and have never taken performance-enhancing or other illegal substances. My doping tests have always been negative,” he wrote: “Moreover, I have never deliberately tried to deceive the Nada or evade controls. I am of good cheer that the facts will be clarified and that I will receive a fair trial.”

As Jallow’s advisor told the Deutsche Presse-Agentur, Jallow had confirmed to the club that he had been found several times for doping tests in the past championship season and that these had all been negative.
