Jorge Martin admits it’s a strange feeling when he talks to Gigi Dall’Igna since the decision against him – But he doesn’t want to prove anything to Ducati anymore
“Of course it’s strange when I talk to Gigi and the Ducati engineers,” says Jorge Martin about the current situation in the Pramac garage. Ducati’s General Manager Gigi Dall’Igna was one of the decision-makers who spoke out against Martin’s move to the factory team
But in day-to-day business, the collaboration will continue. “It’s a bit strange because they ask me a lot of things about what happens on the track. I mean, it’s difficult – honestly,” says Martin. “But I guess they want to help me.”
“I also try to be honest with them and explain what is happening and how we can improve. As I give them information, I hope they give me information too. That is the key.”
Because with Martin and Pramac leaving the Ducati camp at the end of the season, the question is whether they will have the fullest technical support in the world championship battle against the factory team with Francesco Bagnaia until the final race.
“As I said, it’s a bit strange when they come into the pits and talk to me,” says Martin. Because the decision against him also cut a personal cord. After all, he had been one of the young riders to develop in the Pramac team since 2021.
Danilo Petrucci, Bagnaia and Jack Miller also rode for the Pramac team before being promoted to the factory team. Martin looked through his fingers several times. Already for 2023 against Enea Bastianini and now against Marc Marquez
What is the general mood now that the future is clear and Martin will move to Aprilia next year? “I feel more relaxed now. I’m much more relaxed in the pits. The big thing is that I no longer have to show Ducati that I’m the one.”
“I don’t have to demonstrate that anymore. I just ride for myself and try to be a better rider every day. That is my main goal. I don’t have to prove anything to Ducati anymore. I just have to prove to myself that I can achieve my goals.”
Does Martin want to show in the rest of the season that the decision against him was wrong? “No, no, no,” he rebuffs. “Not at all. Even if I was leading the world championship by 100 points, they wouldn’t have chosen me.”
“It’s not about proving anything at all. For me, it’s about working on myself to become a better rider. In Valencia at the end of the year and to be a better rider next year. “
