Novak Djokovic has won his opening match at the tennis tournament in Indian Wells
The world number one had to go through three sets in the second round against Aleksandar Vukic, but prevailed 6:2, 5:7, 6:3. The 24-time Grand Slam winner has already won the hard-court tournament in the Californian desert five times, but has not played in Indian Wells since 2019
Olympic tennis champion Alexander Zverev is also competing in the doubles at the tournament, which is endowed with 12.4 million US dollars (approx. 11.4 million euros), and won his opening match together with Brazilian Marcelo Melo against Australians Marcus Daniell and John-Patrick Smith 6:2, 6:4. The 26-year-old German had qualified for the third round in the singles competition the day before by beating Christopher O’Connell from Australia 6:4, 6:4.
