Djokovic still waiting to decide on Wimbledon start

It is still unclear whether Novak Djokovic will play at Wimbledon. The world number two has announced that he will take his time with his decision

Seven-time Wimbledon winner Novak Djokovic is leaving it open as to whether he will compete in this year’s tennis classic. Although the 37-year-old Serb is training in London following his knee operation, he wants to wait and see how he feels over the next few days. The third Grand Slam tournament of the season begins next Monday.

When asked about his chances, Djokovic told the British broadcaster BBC that he had not come to play just a few rounds. The world number two said he would look from day to day and decide with his team over the next four to six days. “If I know I can play close to the maximum or at the maximum, then I will play. If not, then I will give someone else the chance to play,” explained Djokovic.

At the French Open, he suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee during his round of 16 win against the Argentinean Francisco Cerúndolo. Djokovic then withdrew from the quarter-finals of the clay court tournament in Paris and underwent surgery. The winner of 24 Grand Slam tournaments is currently training with a brace on his right knee for the highlight of the grass court tennis season.
