Djokovic slips in ranking – Federer no longer listed

Despite winning his fourth Wimbledon title in a row, Novak Djokovic has slipped further in the world tennis rankings than he has in almost four years.

The 35-year-old Serb dropped from third to seventh position, the new ranking revealed. No world ranking points were awarded at Wimbledon because of the ban on Russian and Belarusian professionals following Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine. Djokovic thus lost the 2000 points for his victory last year. The last time he was as low as today was in August 2018.

The world rankings continue to be led by Russia’s Daniil Medvedev ahead of Olympic champion Alexander Zverev, who missed Wimbledon after suffering a foot injury from the French Open. New third is Spain’s Rafael Nadal, who was unable to play in the semi-finals at the grass-court classic due to injury. Due to the points not awarded, Australian Nick Kyrgios’ entry into the final does not help him in the rankings either, the 27-year-old slipping from position 40 to 45.

As Roger Federer has now not played a tournament for a year since Wimbledon 2021, the 40-year-old does not appear in the world rankings for the first time in a long time. Federer first appeared in the ranking in September 1997 and later led it for 310 weeks. This record has since been surpassed by Djokovic with 373 weeks. Federer underwent surgery on his right knee for the third time last August. So far this year, among other things, he has confirmed his participation in the Laver Cup at the end of September, the duel of a European team with a world selection.
