Djokovic shows no weakness: first round victory in Paris

Is the world number one strong enough to defend his title? At least he gets through the first round without any problems. But he doesn’t always seem satisfied

World number one Novak Djokovic has reached the second round of the French Open in Paris without dropping a set. The 37-year-old Serb won his opening match on Court Philippe Chatrier against Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6:4, 7:6 (7:3), 6:4. Djokovic will now play the Spanish clay court specialist Roberto Carballes Baena.

Despite the clear result, Djokovic was not always satisfied with his game. The 24-time Grand Slam tournament winner was often seen arguing with himself, his box or even the fans. After two and a half hours, the defending champion converted his first match point thanks to a double fault from Herbert.

Djokovic has had a disappointing season so far and has yet to win a tournament in 2024. He had “low expectations and high hopes” for his start in Paris this year, he said before his opening match.
