Djokovic on Becker case: “Breaks my heart”

Paris – World number one Novak Djokovic is suffering with jailed Boris Becker.

“It breaks my heart to see him go through this phase,” Djokovic said during the French Open in Paris. “I’m just sad that someone who I know so well, who I call part of my family and who is a legend of our sport, has to go through what he’s going through.”

Becker was Djokovic’s coach from 2014 to 2016 and celebrated numerous successes with the Serb. “We had a great relationship, even in the time after we worked together,” Djokovic said. “I was in contact with Noah, one of his sons, to ask if I could help in any way,” Djokovic said. “I hope he gets through this health-wise and stays strong.”

Becker had been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison for bankruptcy fraud. The three-time Wimbledon winner is currently serving time in a London prison.
