Good news for Novak Djokovic: After he had to write off the tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami due to missing Corona vaccination, he may now start in Rome. The tournament is a special one for the Serb.
World number one Novak Djokovic will be allowed to compete in the Masters 1000 tournament in Rome from 8 to 15 May even without a vaccination against the corona virus, according to organisers. This was announced by the President of the Italian Tennis Federation, Angelo Binaghi, on Wednesday.
Djokovic has won the tournament five times. Last year, the Serb reached the final, which he lost to Spain’s Rafael Nadal.
The 34-year-old former protégé of coach Boris Becker was unable to defend his title at the Australian Open at the beginning of the season because he was expelled from the country. He was also ineligible for the US tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami because of the missing vaccination.
