Novak Djokovic is a man who is not used to losing, at least not very often. But his elbow problems that first became seriously apparent when he retired against Tomas Berdych at Wimbledon 2017 led to some major problems for Djokovic. He found himself struggling to progress in tournaments and he quickly fell down in the ATP rankings from his second place.

Djokovic feared his tennis career could be over
The former No.1 eventually opted for surgery on the injury and has been rewarded for his hard rehab work with a 2018 Wimbledon title as well as hitting form in the Masters series events. However, he has revealed that at times he doubted whether he would be able to play in the top tennis matches ever again. After falling down to 22 in the ATP rankings, his recent performances have catapulted him back up to the top 10 and as of 20th August, he has been installed into 6th.
Now he is looking at picking up another title at the US Open and you wouldn’t rule it out, given his rich vein of form. He recently reflected on his darker moments: “I think one of the biggest things I’ve learned about myself is how impatient I was, That was probably one of the hardest ways for me to learn to be patient.”
“I’ve never faced any major injury in my career – which I was very fortunate. But I guess even with the care that I had the body took a lot of beating and eventually I had to address the elbow injury more seriously.”
