Djokovic crashes Zverev press conference and asks space questions

It happens that tennis players watch their competitors train. But now, Novak Djokovic is even attending one of Alexander Zverev’s press conferences – and asking questions.

Novak Djokovic crashed one of Alexander Zverev’s press conferences before the start of the Australian Open. The Serbian tennis star mingled with the journalists at the media day and asked two unusual questions. Zverev (27) kept his cool and caused laughter with his answer.

“We know you love the universe, the planetary system. Can you tell us what excites you about space exploration?” Djokovic (37) asked from the back row of the media center’s largest interview room at Melbourne Park. Zverev replied with a smile: ”I’m trying to understand the unknown.”

But the 24-time Grand Slam tournament winner was not satisfied with that. “Do you think the answer to how to win a Grand Slam is in space?” Djokovic followed up. “I think the answer to how to win a Grand Slam is to let me win one,” Zverev joked.

Zverev will play his first round match on Sunday

Afterwards, the two tennis stars hugged and Djokovic entered the press conference stage. The two had already had a lot of fun and made jokes during their show match under floodlights in the Rod Laver Arena the day before.

Zverev is taking his next shot at his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. The world number two is the clear favorite in the first round against Frenchman Lucas Pouille on Sunday (10:30 a.m. CET/Eurosport).

Djokovic has already won the tournament in Melbourne ten times. The Serb is aiming for his 25th Grand Slam triumph with former professional Andy Murray as his new coach at his side. This would make him the sole record holder for the most successes at the four most important tennis tournaments.
