Brazil’s ‘welcome home’ was far from welcoming, as a bay of angry national team fans took their frustrations out by throwing stones at the bus. Brazil would have perhaps been expecting to come up against Stones – John Stones of England in the final, but they would not have expected these types of stones!
Brazil knocked out by Belgium
Brazil never really looked like they hit top form in Russia and when they were beaten by Belgium in the quarter-finals, you could not say they deserved anything other than to go home.
Neymar’s play-acting makes him the clown of social media
In addition to the misery of missing out on a World Cup semi-final place, Neymar has become a laughing stock with memes flooding social media that mock his dramatic reactions to the slightest of challenges. He really has not done himself any favours in that respect and his tournament will probably be remembered by most fans for his theatrical dives and countless rolls along the floor, rather than his world-class brilliance.
Despite the poor performances and Neymar’s play-acting, they do not deserve to be attacked by their own fans – or any fans for that matter. They lost to Belgium, a very good team that could go all of the way in this tournament. As the Brazilian team bus left Kazan, footage has emerged that shows a group of fans pelting the bus with stones and other items, standing in the way of the bus so that it cannot pass.
No problems at the airport in Brazil
It was a very different story as their plane touched down in Brazil, where the home fans cheered their defeated heroes and there were no signs of trouble at all. The players stopped to sign autographs and have pictures taken with fans, so whilst they were disappointed not to make the final, everyone knows that the samba stars will be back to take on the world again very soon.
