1. FSV Mainz 05 will have to do without coach Bo Svensson for their next Bundesliga match. The Dane conceded a yellow suspension against Bochum.
“For what?” That was the question a visibly annoyed Mainz coach Svensson asked referee Frank Willenborg in the 88th minute during his Nullfünfer’s match against Bochum. The Dane was cautioned by the Osnabrück man for protesting – a special yellow card.
For Svensson, who has been coach of the Rheinhessen side for just over a year, the warning was his fourth of the current season. As a result, the 42-year-old will miss next week’s game against bottom side SpVgg Greuther Fürth (3.30pm) with a suspension.
“Misunderstanding” led to warning
“A bit strange”, because it was a misunderstanding, the warning was according to Svensson. But he admitted to Sky after the 1-0 win: “I didn’t think too much about it. Now he has to accept his suspension. It was a “shame” after the third home win in a row without conceding a goal, but the joy “outweighed the four yellow cards”.
After all, Svensson will be able to coach his team from the sidelines for the renewed clash with VfL Bochum in the DFB Cup on Tuesday evening (8.45pm) in the Ruhrpott.
