DFB team makes unscheduled stopover in Edinburgh

The German national team has had to make an unscheduled stopover in Edinburgh, Scotland on their return trip from Iceland. This was announced by the DFB via Twitter.

“We’re fine. Safety check on the plane in progress,” the federation announced, without elaborating on the circumstances.

In a first tweet at 6.07 a.m. German time, the DFB had already informed about a “safe stopover as a precautionary measure:” “Safety first.” An “individual onward and return journey” was now planned from Edinburgh. At 10.25 a.m., the DFB specified: “Replacement plane is now on its way to Edinburgh to bring the delegation, team, coaches as well as support staff to Frankfurt and Munich.”

Originally, a direct flight had been scheduled to take the team of national coach Hansi Flick from Reykjavik to Frankfurt am Main after the 4-0 victory in the World Cup qualifier, where the plane should have landed at 5.50 a.m. German time.
