“Devastated”: Tuchel speaks out for first time after Chelsea exit

There was silence around Thomas Tuchel after his sacking at Chelsea FC, but now the German coach has spoken out.

After a messed-up start to the season and a crushing 1-0 defeat at Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, Thomas Tuchel has been sacked as Chelsea FC coach. While the Londoners brought Graham Potter to Stamford Bridge for a lot of money and installed him as Tuchel’s replacement, the 49-year-old went underground – until now.

Via “Twitter”, the German coach spoke out. “This is the most difficult statement I’ve ever had to write – and one I hoped I wouldn’t have to make for many years,” his message reads. He said he was “devastated” that his time at Chelsea had come to an end.

“The pride and joy” he felt on the way to winning the Champions League (1-0 against Manchester City) and the FIFA World Cup (2-1 against Palmeiras Sao Paulo), on the other hand, “will remain forever. I am honoured to have been part of the history of this club. The memories of the last 19 months will always have a special place in my heart.”

Tuchel also bid farewell with warm words to the staff, players and fans who had welcomed him from the start. Chelsea, he said, was a club where he had felt “at home” – on both a professional and personal level. Striking: Club owner Todd Boehly is not mentioned with a syllable.
