Despite Raphinha’s proliferation of chances: Barcelona clearly defeat courageous Getafe

Carcelona completed their mandatory victory on Saturday afternoon with a clear win over FC Getafe. Raphinha scored two points in the process

Barcelona, who made three changes from the 1-1 draw in the Champions League round of 16 in Naples, struggled at the start but then got into their stride. Raphinha, who started in place of Lamine Yamal, came close to taking an early lead after just under ten minutes with a back-heel, but shot narrowly wide of the target (8′). Getafe, meanwhile, were also involved in the game, repeatedly trying their luck with long-range shots and earning six corners in the first half alone. However, the Catalans were more dangerous and took the lead in the 20th minute after defender Koundé sent winger Raphinha on his way. Alone in front of David Soria, the Brazilian calmly slotted home

Close lead at half-time – Joao Felix increases

The FCB kept at it, regularly combining into promising shooting positions and almost made it 2:0 through Joao Felix, who replaced Pedri in the starting eleven. However, the ex-Colchonero took too long at the left post (34′). Barcelona did not let up and were desperate for a second goal, but Felix’s free-scoring effort from around 16 meters was also stopped by David Soria (37). Raphinha failed to make the most of two further chances shortly before half-time (41, 45+2), meaning the home side went into the break with a narrow lead.

After the break, Getafe almost punished Barcelona’s proliferation of chances when Luis Milla forced ter Stegen into a save from distance, who turned the ball onto the post (49′). FCB were unimpressed by the brief shock and used the aluminum goal as a wake-up call. Around four minutes later, it was 2:0. After Raphinha’s initial pass to Christensen, the Dane fed Joao Felix, who slotted home with ease (53′).

Fermin scores the final goal

Barcelona played with a lot of wit and great combinations from this point on at the latest. After Gündogan’s opening pass to Raphinha, de Jong completed the move (61′). After that, the game just breezed along. The final goal was scored by substitute Fermin with his shot to make it 4:0 (90.+1).

Barcelona travel to Bilbao next Sunday (9pm). Getafe host Las Palmas a day earlier at 6.30pm.
