The FC Bayern München basketball players have taken the away hurdle of Vitoria-Gasteiz in the Euroleague with confidence – even though things did not go according to plan in the first quarter.
FC Bayern München has underlined its play-off ambitions in the Euroleague. The 84:77 (42:33) victory at Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz on Friday evening was the ninth win in 20 games for the Bundesliga leaders and kept the Spanish club at bay, as the direct comparison is also in favour of the Munich team. Vitoria-Gasteiz had won the first leg 81:76 at the Audi Dome.
The Bavarians started the second leg badly (10:2/4) and only recovered in the course of the first quarter. But then they took the momentum with them. A 17:0 run put them 36:24 in front. In this phase, the home side remained without a basket for more than four minutes. After the change of ends, the Bavarians had some problems defensively. Especially the former Munich player Wade Baldwin made his mark (71:73/37.).
In the final phase, there was a lack of good throwing opportunities for the guests, who, however, regained their composure and were able to extend the lead again. The performances of Othello Hunter and Corey Walden, who scored 17 points each, were also decisive.
