DeChambeau claims second straight FedEx Cup victory, a step closer to Ryder Cup

Bryson DeChambeau Ryder Cup

On Monday, 24-year-old “Mad Scientist” Bryson DeChambeau finished 4-under 67 and remained two shots ahead of Justin Rose to claim his second straight FedEx Cup victory.

“I wouldn’t have written it any better, to be honest with you,”

“I’ve been playing some great golf this whole year. And I knew it was a matter of time before something cool showed up.”

With the win at the Dell Technologies Championship in Boston, DeChambeau became only the second player to capture the opening two playoff events in the FedEx Cup. It was his third victory overall this season, a season which he started ranked No.99. His most recent win sees him jump ahead of Rory McIlroy to No.7.

Bryson DeChambeau will be the top seed in the Tour Championship regardless of what happens in FedEx Cup’s third and final event outside Philadelphia next week. He’s also very likely to be chosen by captain Jim Furyk as one of the three members of his Ryder Cup team. The 24-year-old should be joined by Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.

Bryson DeChambeau “Mad Scientist”

DeChambeau took down one of the strongest fields of the year in Boston and is the hottest player on tour. He always felt he was on the right track and patiently waited for a breakthrough. The reason why they call him the “Mad Scientist” is because of his detailed, scientific approach to the game. He uses single-length golf clubs and prepares for every shot by making nine precise calculations which include distance, wind to air pressure ratios, adrenaline etc.

In a way, Bryson DeChambeau is a pioneer, using the technology of the modern era to the full extent. He believes there’s another level to his game he’s yet to reach.

“You can always get better,”

“How much? I would say it depends on what I can do in the restrictions of my biomechanics. So it’s all about error tolerances and being … less sensitive to error. So that when you do feel like you mess up, it’s not going to be that big of a mess-up. I hope that makes sense.

“But I can say there is another level.”
