Debut must wait: Schalke in Ingolstadt without Büskens

FC Schalke 04 must make do without their new interim coach Mike Büskens in Ingolstadt today. Even the captain cannot be there.

There wasn’t enough time: When Schalke take on FC Ingolstadt today,

Mike Büskens will be missing. The interim coach, who is still expected to lead the Königsblauen to promotion as successor to Dimitrios Grammozis, had tested positive for Corona in the previous week and, according to club information on Sunday morning, must remain in domestic isolation.

Hopes of being able to take time off have been dashed, the first game of his but-one term as interim head coach will have to wait. And so co-coach Matthias Kreutzer will lead the Schalke team in Ingolstadt. The 39-year-old had already been in charge of training in recent days.

He will be assisted by ex-pro Tim Hoogland from the U-17 coaching staff, Licensed Player Department Head Gerald Asamoah “and the other members of the staff”. Büskens will support his team digitally and, according to S04, “be connected throughout with match analyst Lars Gerling”.

In addition to Büskens, captain Danny Latza will also have to miss out on his appearance in Ingolstadt. He is also in domestic isolation after a positive PCR test. All other tests have been negative.
