DBV new member of World Boxing

The German Boxing Association (DBV), together with five other national federations, has been accepted into the new world federation World Boxing.

The German Boxing Association (DBV) has been accepted into the new world federation World Boxing together with five other national federations. This is according to a press release from World Boxing on Thursday. In addition to Germany, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Sweden and Honduras now belong to the federation, which was founded to save boxing’s Olympic future and thus grows to twelve members.

World Boxing was founded in April as a counterpart to the controversial International Boxing Association (IBA), which had already been suspended since 2019 and has since been definitively excluded by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The Dutch and US national federations in particular had pushed for the association and were among the founding members. The IOC recently stressed that boxing is secured in the Olympic programme at least until 2028 in Los Angeles.

According to World Boxing, all members had gone through a “rigorous admission process”. A first congress of the federation is to take place in November. “In building this new world federation, everything that led the IBA to where it is now must be avoided from the very beginning,” DBV President Jens Hadler had told SID in July.
