Davis Cup Intermediate Round: Injured Zverev greeted with cheers

Olympic tennis champion Alexander Zverev, injured again in his right foot, watched the start of the German team in the Davis Cup group stage against France as a spectator, as promised.

As Zverev entered the Rothenbaum stadium in his hometown of Hamburg in a tracksuit, there were scattered cheers at the only moderately attended event. The 25-year-old still signed autographs and had his picture taken with fans.

Jan-Lennard Struff – currently only 132nd in the world rankings – then started for the German team in the duel with France (DAZN and ServusTV) against Benjamin Bonzi, the world number 53. After the announcement of Zverev’s elimination from the intermediate round on Monday, the world number five announced that he would cheer on the team from the bench: “I will be a cheerleader in the best sense of the word.
