Danish police request exclusion of BVB fans in Copenhagen

Danish police have applied to UEFA for the exclusion of Borussia Dortmund fans for the Champions League match at FC Copenhagen.

In its fan information for the clash, BVB stated that it had been informed “that the Copenhagen police have applied to UEFA to allow the match to take place without guest fans for security reasons”. UEFA has not yet made a decision. Advance ticket sales for the match on 2 November are therefore being prepared. The club wants to inform about a decision “as soon as it reaches us”.

Around the first meeting of the two teams on 6 September in Dortmund, there had been riots in the stadium and in the city. As a result, UEFA had sentenced Borussia to a partial exclusion of spectators at the next European Cup match at their home stadium, which was suspended for two years. If the BVB supporters were to misbehave again, the following European Cup match would have to be played with at least 6000 fans less.

For the match in Copenhagen, BVB will only sell personalised tickets to members. This is an “absolute exception”, the club announced. In general, they advise against identifying oneself as an away fan in Copenhagen.

“Even though we are always proud to be able to present our black and yellow all over the world, it cannot be ruled out that there may be provocations or even threats of violence against uninvolved fans in the vicinity of this match due to the extreme rivalry between individual groups of both fan camps,” the statement said.
