Ex-Formula 1 driver Daniil Kwjat has made his first of three scheduled appearances for Team Hezeberg at the Cup race on the Indianapolis circuit
The NASCAR top division grid will feature a former Formula One driver in next Sunday’s race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway infield circuit. Daniil Kwjat, who raced for the Red Bull teams in Grand Prix racing from 2014 to 2020, will make his NASCAR Cup Series debut.
Kwjat will drive the second car from Team Hezeberg from the Netherlands, which is being used for the first time. This is a 26 Toyota Camry, meaning Kwjat will be driving in NASCAR with the same number he drove in his Formula 1 career.
“I’m very excited to be making my NASCAR Cup Series debut in Indianapolis,” says Kwjat, revealing, “I’ve always had a soft spot for NASCAR racing, which is the highest form of motorsport in the US. NASCAR has always held an attraction for me because I think it’s just pure motor sport. “
Sunday’s race on the Indianapolis circuit will be the first of three scheduled for Kwjat for Team Hezeberg. On 21 August at Watkins Glen and on 9 October at the Charlotte roval, the 28-year-old Russian is also scheduled to drive the 27 Hezeberg Ford. At the circuits in Austin and Elkhart Lake, Loris Hezemans sat in the cockpit. And the Dutchman – 25-year-old son of team co-owner Toine Hezemans – is also driving on the Indianapolis circuit on Sunday.
