Dani Olmo is out again. After his brilliant start in Barcelona, the Spaniard is struggling with a hamstring injury
To speak of a formative influence on FC Barcelona’s game after just three appearances would probably be premature. Nevertheless, Dani Olmo has already made it clear in his first few weeks with the Catalans why the Blaugrana were so keen to sign the European champion – and ultimately won the tough negotiations with RB Leipzig.
Three of the 17 goals scored by FCB in their perfect start to the young La Liga season have been scored by the returning home-grown player, who has become an integral part of new coach Hansi Flick’s starting eleven. But for the time being, the 59-year-old will have to do without his high-flyer. Olmo is injured once again
Best start since Fabregas in 2011
In the 4-1 win in Girona, which the Spaniard garnished with a goal like his two previous appearances – the last time a new signing made a comparable start was in the 2011/12 season with Cesc Fabregas – Olmo had to be substituted with an injury. While Flick had hoped for a mild diagnosis on Sunday (“Hopefully it’s not that bad”), the bitter certainty followed on Monday
Olmo has injured his right hamstring, the Catalans wrote in a statement. The attacking player will miss four to five weeks for FCB. “A serious setback. “
Not a blank slate
Olmo is no stranger to injuries. During his three-and-a-half years at RB Leipzig, he missed numerous games, including an acromioclavicular joint injury and a knee injury in the 2023/24 season that put him out of action for weeks. He also had to miss extended periods in previous seasons due to two torn muscle fibers, among other things, and Olmo recently missed Spain’s Nations League match in Switzerland due to a knee injury.
