West Ham United announced on Wednesday that Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinský has acquired a 27 per cent stake in the London Premier League club. The entrepreneur and lawyer is already a co-owner of Sparta Prague.

Part of the deal, West Ham said the two Czechs would become members of the Europa League contender’s board. “On behalf of the entire board, I would like to welcome Daniel Kretinský, Pavel Horský and ‘1890 holdings a.s’ to West Ham,” board vice-chair Karren Brady revealed, explaining the share sale, “We are always looking to develop. Daniel Kretinský’s commitment brings investment that will strengthen the club’s position and in turn support the development of West Ham’s core areas. “
