An unusual event took place in the British junior racing series at Donington – two riders were declared winners in a photo finish
The third race weekend of the British Talent Cup took place at the time-honoured Donington Park. History was also made at the storied circuit as there was a photo finish with two winners!
In the first race, Carter Brown beat his team mate Johnny Garness by a razor-thin margin. In the second race, there was literally nothing separating the two. Brown and Garness came out of the last corner side by side.
Both had a small slide and they crossed the finish line side by side. The timing threw out the exact same race time for both. Finally, the finish photo had to decide. But the photo also showed that they both crossed the finish line at exactly the same time.
There were two race winners! Both Brown and Garness were declared winners and each received 25 points towards the championship. Second place was not awarded. Third on the podium was Kiyano Veijer.
After three race weekends, Brown and Garness occupy the top two positions in the championship. Both ride for Michael Laverty’s Vision Track team. Since this year, this team is also represented in the Moto3 World Championship.
The British Talent Cup has been around since 2018 and serves as a springboard for up-and-coming British riders. The field is equipped with uniform Honda NSF250Rs. It is one of the national junior series supported by MotoGP promoter Dorna.
