Adidas have some of the world’s biggest stars on their books but their latest advert is jaw-droppingly brilliant even by their high standards. The cast of the advert reads like a footballing wall of fame, then there are a few other high profile names thrown into the mix for good measure. Stormzy and Pharrell Williams make an appearance, as do tennis star Caroline Wozniacki, Damian Lillard (NBA) and Von Miller (NFL).
Featuring Messi and Salah
The advert starts with the world’s hottest football property himself – Lionel Messi. There is also a cameo from the Egyptian King Mohamed Salah who is hoping to one day soon eclipse the exploits of the great Messi.
The Premiership’s biggest transfer fee signing Paul Pogba is another familiar face, along with his current manager Jose Mourinho. Both of them are headline makers in their own right, Pogba even has newspaper articles discussing his latest haircut so getting these guys on board for the ad was a huge achievement. Mourinho is the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ and has enjoyed his own moments in the limelight throughout his illustrious managerial career.
Beckham the Branding Magnet
Marketing coup David Beckham has been the posterboy for Adidas for many years and he was the face chosen to propel the Predator designs back in the early years of his career. Despite having been retired for several years, Beckham is still a branding phenomena and his part in the advert is another big highlight.
Adidas released a similarly star-studded ad back in December where stars from all sporting worlds come together for what is billed as a grand feast. The creative team obviously wanted to make this ad a bit more action based to showcase some of the key skills and sporting attitudes that their multitude of stars possess.
World Cup All-Stars
You will also see the likes of Suarez and Zidane representing La Liga and a host of players from the Premier League including Ozil, Jesus and Alli. What Adidas seem to have done exceptionally well is feature a star representative from as many countries featuring in the World Cup as possible. This ultimately means that as World Cup fever pitch grows, fans all over the world will be watching the ad in the half-time interval and ordering the Adidas merchandise as modelled by their favourite star.
You could say Adidas have earned their stripes with this star-studded advertisement that is timed to perfection in the lead up to the much-anticipated World Cup 2018 in Russia.
