Tiger Woods was the undisputed top golfer of his generation, with 79 PGA Tour victories and 14 Majors, he was the King of golf. He was also great for the sport of by attracting new fans and playing exciting golf that changed the way people perceived the sport.
The future had looked golden for Tiger Woods, as he was catapulted to fame as a 20-year old pro golfer and winning his first Major aged just 21. The victories were quickly stacking up and Tiger was no longer just a young star of the golf world, he was one of the biggest sports stars in the world, with the huge bank balance to show for it.
What went wrong for Tiger Woods?
His fall from grace made news across the world and his very public marriage problems were first brought to attention in a very dramatic style. The first story that was doing the rounds was that Woods had a slow moving car accident and his wife tried to get him out of the car by smashing the back window with one of his treasured golf clubs – at 2.25 am.
The story sounded like a stretch of the imagination and it eventually came out that his wife had attacked him after finding out about several indiscretions with other women. His golf form plummeted and a string of injuries have scuppered his hopes of getting back to his previous level.
Tiger Woods to play at Carnoustie
However, he made his competitive return to the game at the end of last year and managed to tie 32nd at the Masters this April. Whilst 32nd is nowhere near his previous achievements, it is a clear signal that he is on his way upwards at least. He is due to play at Carnoustie at the Open Championship, where he has won the Claret Jug three times. Perhaps the old memories in Scotland could spark some life back into his career.
