The Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby is nearly here and the O’Brien brothers are hoping that their three-year-old brown colt will be following the lead of their more experienced horse, Rekindling.
Latrobe 25/1 but not a no-chancer
Latrobe may be out at 25/1 but Joseph O’Brien insists that you should not write off his chances. He said “We have always liked him and, at the start of the season, we were hoping he would be the flag-bearer for the stable through the summer. He is in good shape and the ground and everything should be fine for him.”
Excitement for the Irish Derby
Race goers will be heading to The Curragh Racecourse this weekend for Ireland’s top race event, hoping to get a few lucky winners. Saxon Warrior is current favourite at 1/2, with Dee Ex Bee at 7/2.
Saxon Warrior did not live up to expectations at Epsom but that has not prevented the bookies from installing him as the favourite. However, it is not just the O’Brien brothers that are talking up Latrobe recently. A number of tipping experts are mentioning Latrobe and highlighting that he will be well-suited to twelve furlongs on fast ground.
Latrobe’s race records
Latrobe has had four runs, in which he won one and was placed second in the other three, giving him a 25%-win rate going into the Irish Derby. The riding tactics will be left down to Joseph O’Brien’s brother and jockey Donnacha O’Brien who also has very high hopes for Latrobe. At 25/1 you would expect quite a few punters to be placing each way on Latrobe, given how notorious the O’Briens are in the racing circles.
