Copa Libertadores: Vidal and Diego go for the title

Flamengo Rio de Janeiro have made the Brazilian final in the Copa Libertadores perfect: After beating Velez Sarsfield 2-1, Arturo Vidal & Co. will face Athletico Paranaense.

In the first leg in Buenos Aires, the seven-time Brazilian champions had laid the foundations with a 4-0 win over the Argentine club, followed by a 2-1 win over Sarsfield at the Maracana.

Vidal in the starting eleven, Diego comes on just before the end

Pedro (42nd) and Marinho (68th) turned the game around for last year’s finalists, Lucas Pratto (21st) had initially given the Argentines the lead. The team with former Bundesliga players Arturo Vidal and Diego, who came on as a substitute, had already won the first leg in Buenos Aires 4-0.

Final in Guayaquil

On 29 October, the final will take place in Guayaquil, Ecuador, against Athletico Paranaense, who are coached by coaching legend Luiz Felipe Scolari and have never won the Copa before. This is the third time in a row that two Brazilian clubs have faced each other in the final. Flamengo, who lost 2-1 to Palmeiras Sao Paulo in the 2021 final, will be aiming for their third title since 1981 and 2019.
