Christian Eriksen has made his decision, in the future he wants to pull the strings at Manchester United. A number of interested parties have been rebuffed in the process.
Manchester United’s new coach Erik ten Hag has got one of his desired players: Playmaker Eriksen will pull on the red jersey of the Red Devils in the future and signs a contract for three years.
“Manchester United is a special club and I can’t wait to get started,” said the Dane on his introduction. “I’ve had the privilege of playing at Old Trafford many times, but to be there now in the red jersey of Manchester United is a great feeling.” On working with coach ten Hag, he says: “I’ve followed Erik’s work at Ajax and know how much work he and his team put in every day.” He is a fantastic coach; he is very happy about the cooperation.
Next chapter: return to a top club
The fairytale story of the 30-year-old’s return to the European football stage thus has a new chapter. After the Dane suffered a cardiac arrest in last year’s European Championship match against Finland and had a defibrillator fitted as a result, he was unable to continue his career with Inter Milan due to Serie A statutes.
The contract was terminated and he then joined Brentford FC in January 2022. In his old home of London – where he had spent his most successful time between 2013 and 2020 with Tottenham – he picked up where he left off in the second half of the Premier League and shone as a thoughtful and technically skilled playmaker for the promoted side.
However, Eriksen had only signed a six-month contract with the Bees, so several clubs were courting the free-kick specialist. In the end, however, only Brentford, who offered a contract extension, and Manchester United were in the running – with the better end for the English record champions.
