With Jan-Moritz Lichte’s move to Turkey, the last contract with a released coach at FSV Mainz 05 has now also been terminated. Michael Falkenmayer and Michael Thurk are working in scouting.
The working papers with the three suspended assistants of Achim Beierlorzer and Sandro Schwarz had been a burden on Mainz 05’s budget for a long time, but that is now over. At the end of last week, the contract with Jan-Moritz Lichte, who served as head coach for as many as eleven Bundesliga games in 2020/21, was “terminated by mutual agreement”, according to the official announcement. Yesterday evening, the Turkish Football Association finally announced that the 41-year-old would receive a three-year contract as co-coach of national coach Stefan Kuntz.
The contract with Achim Beierlorzer (53), which also ran until 2022, had already been terminated in June so that the football coach could return to RB Leipzig as co-coach. The contract terminations of Beierlorzer and Lichte relieve Mainz 05’s budget by around 750,000 euros, according to kicker information.
Michael Falkenmayer has already found new employment at Mainz 05 since this summer. The former co-coach of Beierlorzer, Schwarz and Lichte had been released at the end of December 2020. The 38-year-old former Mainz pro now works in scouting. The same applies to ex-05 pro Michael Thurk (45), who was Schwarz’s assistant. After his co-coaching contract expired, Thurk also signed on as a scout in mid-2021.
The new head coach Bo Svensson only took over Patrick Kaniuth (36) as assistant and Stephan Kuhnert (61) as goalkeeping coach from the former coaching team. 05 veteran Kuhnert has been part of the FSV coaching team since 1998. In addition, Svensson brought Babak Keyhanfar (36) from FC Liefering, who followed the Dane from Mainz to Austria at the beginning of 2020.
