The FC Bayern basketball team has already won four times in the current Euroleague season, with victory number five following on Friday evening in Lyon.
The FC Bayern Munich basketball team has won both matches in the Euroleague double-header. Three days after the 87:84 victory in Bologna, the German champions beat Asvel Villeurbanne 84:71 (43:33). This means that head coach Gordon Herbert’s team has won its last four European matches.
The visitors pushed forward quickly and also showed accuracy from outside, but they missed a few shots at the basket. Nevertheless, the visitors led 19:17 after the first quarter. At the start of the second period, the German basketball league club seized the momentum, pulled ahead by up to 14 points and, thanks to a strong defensive performance, went in at half-time leading 43:33.
Bayern only allowed itself a brief period of weakness
In the middle of the third quarter, Munich allowed themselves a brief period of weakness, but the visitors were able to rely on national player Oscar da Silva (15 points). So Bayern led 64:49 going into the final period, in which Herbert’s team controlled the game. Devin Booker led Munich with 16 points.
It was probably a special game for the Munich coaching team: Before the start of last season, Gordon Herbert was considered a candidate for the vacant coaching position in Lyon, but the then German national basketball coach was not given permission by the DBB to coach a club team at the same time as his role as national coach.
Herbert would have taken over from TJ Parker, who had been dismissed at the time and has been supporting Herbert as an assistant at Bayern since this season.
