Tennis star Coco Gauff continues without coach Brad Gilbert. But the separation is a good one
American tennis star Coco Gauff has ended her collaboration with her coach Brad Gilbert after just over a year. The 2023 US Open winner and her coach announced their separation on social media. Gauff was the defending champion at the US Open in New York at the beginning of September, losing in the round of 16 to her compatriot Emma Navarro.
“Thank you @bgtennisnation! We had an incredible run and I wish you all the best for the future!” the 20-year-old wrote on X (formerly Twitter). After her first-round exit at Wimbledon 2023, Gauff really took off with the help of Gilbert and celebrated her first triumph at a Grand Slam tournament at the US Open 2023
Gilbert also thanked Gauff via X for their 14 months of work together. “Coco, at only 20 years old, your future is incredibly bright and I wish you nothing but continued success,” wrote the former pro, who has worked with tennis greats such as Andre Agassi, Andy Murray and Andy Roddick. “I look forward to the next chapter of my coaching career. “
Gauff had carried the USA flag at the Olympic opening ceremony in Paris together with basketball superstar LeBron James. In the French capital, the former world number two in the tennis rankings was eliminated early and failed to win a medal.
