The 1:1 between Düsseldorf and Hannover will not really help either team. Nevertheless, Fortuna will be particularly annoyed: the hosts led for a long time and deserved it, but conceded the equaliser in injury time with a dream goal.
Düsseldorf coach Christian Preußer made two changes after the disappointing 1:2 in Rostock and put Peterson and Piotrowski on the bench, ex-Hanoverian Klaus (2015-2018) and Appelkamp (return after Corona infection) came into the team instead.
96-Coach Jan Zimmermann also changed his team in two positions compared to the 1:1 against Aue. Krajnc replaced the injured Börner (thigh injury), and Ernst started in place of Maina (bench).
Clear early too free – Hoffmann has to be carried off the field
After just six seconds, Kerk had the first shot, albeit harmless. But after that, the opening phase belonged to the hosts, who built up an enormous amount of pressure and took the lead through Klarer, who had escaped Krajnc, after the first corner (5.).
After that, Düsseldorf was simply more present in the duels, but had to do without Hoffmann from minute 15. The centre-back had a violent collision with Ernst in midfield and had to be treated for several minutes. He was then taken off the field on a stretcher, Oberdorf came into the match in his place.
When the ball started rolling again, nothing changed in the way the game was played. Düsseldorf almost went 2-0 up, but Sobottka put the ball over the top (17th).
The hosts actually had everything under control, a quickly taken free kick by Kerk nevertheless created a great chance for Ondoua to equalise, but the newcomer failed to hit the target (25th).
It was the only noteworthy chance of often too ponderous playing Niedersachsen, who were lucky in the six minutes of added time that Klaus was surprised from close range and therefore could not put the ball on goal (45.+2).
Narey with the chance – many completions, few chances
Zimmermann brought on Weydandt for the second half, which changed the tactical approach somewhat, as from then on the big attackers were to be sought with long balls. First, however, it was Narey who could not score the second goal from close range (55.).
Hannover’s change of tactics nevertheless made for a more balanced game, in which the goals were more frequent on both sides, but not really dangerous. Kaiser missed the target (60th), on the other side Hansen saved Appelkamp’s shot from distance (68th).
Packing injury time – Muslija scores worth seeing
Zimmermann tried everything from the outside, threw Maina, Ochs, Muslija and Sulejmani into the team for the final phase – and was rewarded for it very late: Kerk laid off to Muslija on the edge of the penalty area, who took the ball once and then circled it into the corner from 20 metres (90.+2).
But the game was not over yet: On the opposite side, Piotrowski shot Sulejmani in the hand less than 60 seconds later, VAR Patrick Alt sent referee Robert Kampka to the screen, but he did not decide on a penalty, it remained 1-1.
This draw helps neither Düsseldorf nor Hannover, it remains a difficult season for both teams. Hannover have now waited six games in the league for a treble.
