In the lead up to the Tour de France, a lot of the talk has involved Chris Froome’s anti-doping investigation. After he tested positive for high levels of salbutamol, people were quick to accuse him of cheating and even called for him to be prevented from participating at the Tour de France.
A Tour de France without Chris Froome would not be the same, so when it was announced that he had been cleared of doping, the majority of cycling fans were ecstatic. However, there are still a number that are sceptical about the investigation outcome and Froome is anticipating that he will receive some negativity at the Tour de France.
Froome has asked that fans now leave him in peace to concentrate on the race, particularly after the incident in 2015 where a spectator threw a cup of urine over him whilst shouting ‘doper’ as he cycled past.
Chris Froome Giant Inhaler
At Giro d’Italia at the end of May, pranksters chased Froome whilst carrying giant inhalers, as a reference to the excess amount of salbutamol found in his test.
Does Chris Froome have asthma?
Froome has a known history of asthma and salbutamol helps to open the airways in the lungs and make breathing easier. Team Sky announced that a doctor advised a higher volume of the drug that was still within the allowed dose limits.
He feels it is inevitable that he will get some people who still doubt his innocence. The Tour de France crowd can be particularly hard and following the recent incident, it is unlikely that he will get the chance to race in peace. You can probably expect more giant inhalers.
