Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (32) may be missing from FC Bayern until February. The striker has been nominated for Cameroon’s Africa Cup squad.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has not been able to help FC Bayern since mid-November, and this is now likely to turn into a three-month “break”. Because the striker, recently slowed down by the coronavirus and its after-effects, is scheduled to play for Cameroon at the Africa Cup, he could be absent until the beginning of February.
Hosts Cameroon open the tournament on 9 January against Burkina Faso and are considered one of the favourites for the title. The final will be played in Yaoundé on 6 February.
Recently, there had been repeated speculation that the top European clubs would not release their African players because of the Corona situation. Liverpool FC, for example, would be heavily affected, losing Sadio Mané (Senegal) and Mohamed Salah (Egypt).
