Chemnitz still second – Ulm back on the road to success

On the 23rd matchday of the BBL, second-placed Chemnitz had to travel to penultimate-placed Crailsheim – and won with aplomb. At the same time, Würzburg won clearly in Oldenburg. Tübingen won the basement duel with the MBC in the evening

Surprise team Niners Chemnitz is still hot on the heels of league leaders Bayern Munich in the BBL. The club from Chemnitz won 97:82 (42:39) at relegation candidates Hakro Merlins Crailsheim and, with 19:4 wins after 23 games, remains first in pursuit of Bayern (18:3), who play Rasta Vechta on Sunday (3:30 p.m./MagentaSport). Wesley van Beck was the Niners’ top scorer with 24 points.

Champions ratiopharm Ulm, who lost to Chemnitz a week ago (82:83), moved back into a direct play-off spot on Saturday with a 91:78 (44:43) win over BG Göttingen after four defeats from five league games. The American Trevion Williams was the outstanding player with a double-double (22 points, 11 rebounds).

The Würzburg Baskets also still have a good chance of making the postseason, consolidating fourth place with a 96:76 (55:35) win at EWE Baskets Oldenburg. Zac Seljaas shone for Würzburg with 30 points
