Charles Leclerc: Would really like to drive Le Mans one day

It is the goal of many Formula 1 drivers: Charles Leclerc also wants to compete in the endurance classic at Le Mans one day – He’s more reserved when it comes to Indy

There are many iconic racetracks. In Formula 1, these include Monaco and Monza, where Charles Leclerc won this season. But Le Mans is also surrounded by a very special myth, which is why the Ferrari driver definitely wants to take part in the legendary 24-hour race there one day

Leclerc expressed this wish after the last race weekend in Monza when he looked back on his victories this year: “It feels good to win on these two tracks – Monaco and Monza. It certainly means something more, Monaco as a Monegasque and here as a Ferrari driver.”

“So yes, both are a very special feeling and I wouldn’t want to choose between the two because both are very, very special,” he emphasized.

When asked whether he would also be interested in other famous racetracks besides Monaco and Monza, such as Indianapolis or Le Mans, Leclerc clarified: “I’m really interested in driving at Le Mans one day.”

“Indianapolis is not necessarily something I have my eye on. Maybe one day. But Le Mans is definitely one of the races I would like to take part in one day. I don’t know when, but hopefully soon. “

Leclerc thus joins a long tradition of Formula 1 drivers who have competed at Le Mans. Fernando Alonso and Nico Hülkenberg, for example, have already successfully mastered the challenges of the endurance classic.

Alonso won the prestigious race twice: in 2018, when he was still competing in Formula 1 at the same time, and again in 2019 during his time out. Nico Hülkenberg was victorious at Le Mans as an active Formula 1 driver in 2015.

Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel have also shown interest in endurance races such as Le Mans in the past, although they have not yet competed. So Leclerc is not alone in wanting to prove his skills in one of the toughest and most prestigious races in the world.
